A Quiet Thread

Most people don’t notice the old cat at the shelter – the one who might be the kindest old soul – or the “aggressive” mutt that has a heartbreaking background who simply needs the warmth of a loving touch. Too often, shelter pets are overlooked because people believe they can find better, want a purebred animal, or hope to customize their pet through breeders.

What many fail to do is place themselves in these animals’ shoes – or should I say paws. While both adoption and responsible breeding play a part in pet ownership, adopting from shelter plays a critical role addressing overpopulation and giving abandoned animals a second chance.

Adoption is not about saving animals – it’s about seeing them. Behind every shelter door is an animal patiently waiting to be chosen. When we slow down long enough to notice those quietly waiting, we might come to the conclusion that the companion we have been looking for has been there all along.
